Building the Good Society – A European Perspective -

The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung and Compass invited to the conference ’Building the Good Society – A European Perspective’ held on 20th - 22nd January 2010 in London. This event brought together progressive social democratic thought leaders from 19 countries across Europe to address how to develop social democratic forces in Europe. It worked from the report “Building the Good Society” (available in English and German) written by Dr Jon Cruddas, a leading back-bench UK Labour MP, and Andrea Nahles, Member of the German Bundestag and Deputy Chairwoman of SPD. The event was structured to allow discussion and agreement on the triple crisis of equality, sustainability and democracy and how to bind them together into a coherent narrative about the good society.
Prior to the conference Social Europe and Soundings Journal started an European online forum www.goodsociety.social-europe.eu to debate the “Good Society” project.
